SolidFire Helix Data Protection
On par with SolidFire's scale is its ability to handle multiple concurrent failures across all levels of the storage system. All data within the system is replicated with SolidFire Helix™ technology. If a failure occurs at the drive or node level, the subset of data is instantly re-replicated across the cluster to maintain data redundancy. This practice also holds true when an administrator powers down a drive or node within the system. Regardless of the action or occurrence, SolidFire never operates with data in a degraded state.
SolidFire Element™ also reduces the overall system impact of drive failures compared to traditional SANs with RAID. In most architectures the loss of a single drive can have a 40-50% impact on performance and continue to affect performance until the drive has been replaced and completely rebuilt, a process that can take days to complete. SolidFire Helix data protection prevents the performance impact of traditional RAID by isolating individual device failures. In a SolidFire storage system any device failure only affects performance relative to that device's size within the system. If a single drive fails out of a 1000 drive system performance will only degrade by .1%
