DemoFriday™: Plexxi and SolidFire Demo Programmable Networks & QoS-Capable Storage Solution
Two adjacent technology spaces are racing towards a software-defined future, fueled by the kind of disruptive advances that come along only once or twice in a generation. On May 10, we will show what happens when networking and storage intersect in a software-defined world. Plexxi and SolidFire have integrated their products to deliver a cloud storage solution that delivers the type of Quality-of-Service guarantees required to truly monetize the cloud.
Plexxi brings SDN principles to a shipping datacenter product.
The demonstration will showcase Plexxi's optically-connected
switches built around a controller-based architecture. At the core
of Plexxi's networking view is the notion that the
job doesn't end at connectivity and that traditional leaf-spine
architectures miss the point. The IT infrastructure world revolves
around applications and end-user experience. Without understanding
who is talking to who (this app on this VM to that disk on that
server), the network fundamentally misses out on the biggest value
it can add: improving these conversations.
SolidFire is born out of the largest cloud
infrastructures in the world and purpose-built around the problem
of delivering high-performance applications from a cloud
infrastructure. Traditional spinning media storage was never
designed to guarantee performance or be deployed in a multi-tenant
cloud. So SolidFire re-architected everything, developing the only
storage architecture built specifically to guarantee true Quality
of Service (QoS).
The combination of these two - a programmable network and a
QoS-capable storage solution - extends the value of SDN beyond just
the network. We will demonstrate how data harvested from a
SolidFire storage cluster can be used by the Plexxi controller to
help ensure that the network is complicit in delivering against
storage SLAs. This demonstration is about using SDN to drive actual
business value. You won't see theoretical discussions about how
things could work; this demo is about a production-ready path to
revenue.
